Haslingden's Little Storms had their first home game at Fearns this weekend with a 7-aside game against Wilpshire Wanderers FC. The Little Storms are new to this level of game and have been working hard to make the step up in recent weeks from their indoor 5-aside games. It was a typical wet and windy Rossendale Sunday morning, but that didn't put our girls off.
The game started with Emily Spetchley in goal with Gracie Millard, Hollie Spetchley, and Olivia Gray in defence. Hettie Jarosz, Poppy Jones, and Liv Newbitt went in midfield/attack. Eva Brown, Bella Stansfield, and Nicole Boustouller started the game as subs.
Wilpshire Wanderers FC were a strong side and gave the Little Storms a good game. Both teams worked hard and didn't let the poor weather get to them. Wilpshire were strong in attack but our girls held their own and kept themselves in the game in the first half with a goal from Jarosz. Spetchley (E) had a great first half in goal and Millard, Spetchley (H), and Gray worked hard in defence. Brown, Boustouller, and Stansfield joined the game and quickly got involved.
The second half started well and Newbitt, Jones along with Jarosz pushed hard with the support of the other girls to get back in to the game. Millard went between the sticks for the second half and managed some good saves. Jones also added a great second goal to the tally.
Wilpshire were a little too strong for the Little Storms but it gave the girls a good experience and areas to think about in training; both teams put on a great display of football. Jones was awarded player of the match.
