HGLFC Storms Vs Barnoldswick (15/09/19)

Kitty Millard15 Sep 2019 - 11:28

What a game for the Storms!

It was a grey and wet morning for the Storms as they take on Barnoldswick. The girls were raring to go in their new match day kits. Rose Whelan started in goal. Nicole Boustouller and Rosie Thompson went in defence. Gracie Millard and Olivia Grey went in midfield and Hettie Jarosz and Poppy Jones as attackers. Emily Speechley, Hollie Speechley, and Daisy Holly started the game as subs. Rosie Thompson was team captain for this game.

The first half started well with a real end to end game. It was only 3 minutes in when the Storms hit the woodwork and that pretty much set the tone for a great game of football. Jones opened the scoring on 8 minutes after a real even period of play from both teams. Jarosj provided some strong runs up front whilst Boustouller kept strong at the back with good positioning. Jones had another great chance on 16 minutes but Barnsoldswick were strong in defence and effectively tracked back throughout the game. Whelan worked hard in goal throughout the first half and Speechley (H) provided good cover in front of her. Holly had a great run on 19 minutes which was followed by a fantastic chance from Jarosj. Barnoldswick had two quick and strong attackers who managed to find the net just before half time.

Speechley (E) went in goal for the second half switching to the position well. Barnsoldwick started the second half strong and scored again on 27 minutes. The Storms didn't let this get to them and each and every player put in to practice their training and half time talk to get themselves back in the game with Jones scoring on 30 minutes. Millard quickly followed up with another goal on 32 minutes cutting through the defence. The storms were starting to turn the game round, and even the weather as it stopped raining and the sun came out! Jarosz added another goal for the Storms on 33 minutes. Thompson added strong defensive play throughout the game and certainly helped the Storms push on further in the second half. A full team effort allowed Jones to add another goal on 36 minutes. Barnoldswick were never out of the game who scored again on 45 minutes. The storms ended on a high with a great run from Jones who selflessly passed to Grey to score the final goal of the game.

Great game from both teams with Boustouller deservedly awarded player of the match for her great defensive work. Well done girls and on to next week!
