It had only been a couple of weeks since the Storms played Leigh Genesis in the league when they came away with a disappointing loss. The Storms were itching to get started in this game and see if they could push for a better result - it was the cup semi-final after all!

We started with all the Olivias - Olivia Newbitt, Olivia Grey, and Olivia Turner, Holly Speechley, Emily Speechley, Eva Brown, Gracie Millard, Poppy Jones, Rose Whelan, and Hettie Jarosz.

It started as the difficult game the team expected with Leigh Genesis strong upfront and scoring early which was followed up by a second goal. You may have expected the Storms to drop their heads, but they fought hard for the period up to half time with two goals from Newbitt and one from Jones. As well as scoring, the Storms had to defend hard and each player held their position, listened, and worked together as a team to remain strong in all areas of the game. It was tough and physical but the Storms found themselves in the driving seat by the end of the first half.

Leigh Genesis started the second half strong with more of their attacking play and added another goal early on. The Storms again found strength from within and brought more of their determination and excellent team play to add another goal each from Newbitt and Jones. It was a tense end to the game with parents supporting from the sidelines, WhatsApp messages being sent back to those not able to be there, and a little biting of nails.

The final whistle eventually blew and the Storms were the victors. You could tell this meant a lot to not just the players, but the coaches, and the parents and grandparents watching. It was a hard match and one where the Storms had to come back twice. They are growing in to such a strong team and can't wait for the final!
